A significant portion of Hydro's aluminium is produced using renewable hydroelectric power. The company also uses natural gas, coal and nuclear energy in its production.

Our aluminium production in Brazil, Canada and Norway is based on hydroelectricity.

The energy efficient production at the partly owned Qatalum aluminium plant in the Persian Gulf uses power from its own gas generating plant. It was built in 2010 and boasts the best commercially available technology.

The company's goal is to base as much production as possible on renewable and climate-friendly energy sources. Where hydroelectric power is not available, we try to use energy sources having the least negative effect on the climate.
